過去，黑人在歷史上低微的處境，讓他們的自然捲和髮型都被解讀為“落後”。

為了生存，只能順應主流的白人文化。男性只能剃短，不能留辮子。女性則是戴起了假髮。

種族歧視已讓黑人族群忍無可忍

直到上個世紀期間，開啟了一連串的非裔美國人民權運動，他們才找回對膚色、頭髮和文化的自我認同。

長久以來，黑人在體育、音樂、政治等各界有著驚人表現與成就，也讓全世界逐漸對黑人有更多理解和欣賞。

黑人髮型轉變流行文化

近年嘻哈文化更在亞洲地區達到鼎沸，因為節目“中國有嘻哈”、“嘻哈大時代”的熱播，越來越多亞洲男孩女孩開始喜愛黑人髮型。
