你走進理髮廳，也許只是想換個造型、剪個清爽。但你知道嗎？放眼歷史，Barbershop從來就不只是「剪頭髮」這麼單純的地方。

古羅馬

Barbershop＝維持社會地位＋情報中心

定期剪髮、刮鬍子，是每個男人的社會責任。頭髮亂、鬍子長，會被認為不可信任。從將軍到小販，外表整齊才代表自律與榮譽。理髮店也是資訊交換所：談生意、講政治、辯哲學，甚至練演說口才，這裡是公民參與的第一站。

中世紀歐洲

Barbershop＝剪頭＋外科手術室

那時候的理髮師叫「外科理髮師」(Barber-Surgeon)，會剪髮、刮鬍，也會放血、拔牙、開膿瘡。你在修瀏海，隔壁可能在處理傷口。紅白藍的旋轉理髮柱就是那時留下的記號：紅是血、白是繃帶、藍是血管。

工業革命後，工具進化、電剪問世，理髮開始走向精緻化。從刮鬍、抹油、修鬢角，到氣派裝潢與高級理髮椅，更強調『體面紳士、品味優雅』

70年代美國黑人社群

Barbershop = 自我認同＋文化庇護所

在種族隔離的壓力下，Barbershop成了黑人男性唯一能放鬆的地方。這裡有人會聽你說話，不用裝、不用防備。剪頭髮以外，也是嘻哈的發源地、社會運動的討論場、文化記憶的據點。

21世紀台灣

Barbershop = 剪頭髮＋情感支持

現在的理髮廳風格百百種：英倫風、日系、韓系、美式，也有像我們這樣，把街頭感與在地情感剪進每一顆頭裡。不管是哪一種風格，真正重要的是——這是一個你可以走進來、坐下來、被理解的地方。

Barbershop的歷史告訴我們：每個撐住場面的男人背後，都有一個撐住他的理髮店。
